Advion or Alpine Cockroach Gel? Which to Buy in the UAE, and When to Use Both

Short answer: For a first treatment in most UAE homes, start with Advion. Choose Alpine if you already used Advion and the roaches came back or stopped eating it, or for kitchens and food areas. For a heavy or stubborn infestation, use both together in separate dots. Both are original professional gels; the real difference is their chemistry, not their strength.
Advion (Syngenta) and Alpine (BASF) are the two professional cockroach gels most people in the UAE end up choosing between. They look the same, they are applied the same way, and both work. So which one should you buy? It depends on one thing: what has already been used in your home.
The key difference: two different chemistries
| Advion Cockroach Gel | Alpine Cockroach Gel | |
|---|---|---|
| Maker | Syngenta (Switzerland) | BASF (Germany) |
| Active ingredient | Indoxacarb 0.6% | Dinotefuran |
| How it works | Activated inside the roach's body (MetaActive); blocks nerve sodium channels | Acts on a different nerve target (nicotinic receptors) |
| Repellent? | No | No |
| Known for | Strong secondary and tertiary kill; German cockroaches, including bait-averse strains | Fast action, good on nymphs; EPA Reduced-Risk active, popular in food areas |
| Label rate | 1–3 dots per 3 m (light), 3–5 per 3 m (heavy); about 60 dots per 30 g tube | |
Because they hit the cockroach in different ways and come in different food bases, a roach that has learned to avoid one will usually still eat the other. That is the whole reason professionals keep both.
Which one to buy: by situation
| Your situation | Best choice |
|---|---|
| First time treating, small German cockroaches in the kitchen | Advion |
| Used Advion before; roaches came back or ignore the dots | Alpine |
| Unknown gel used by a previous tenant or company | Both, in separate dots |
| Heavy infestation, several rooms, or a villa | Both together, or the Triple Gel Kit |
| Restaurant, cafe or food storage | Alpine, with Advion as the rotation partner |
| Under control, want to keep it that way | Rotate: Advion → Alpine → Advion Evolution, every 3 months |
Why "which is stronger?" is the wrong question
Both gels kill cockroaches that eat them. When a gel "stops working", it is almost never because the poison got weaker. It is one of three things:
- Spray residue near the dots. Roaches avoid sprayed surfaces, so they never reach the bait. This is the most common cause. (Why your gel failed.)
- Bait aversion. After months on the same bait, part of the population stops eating that recipe. Switching from Advion to Alpine, or the other way round, fixes this.
- Too few dots, or in the wrong places. Dots must be inside cracks where roaches live, not on open surfaces.
So the useful question is not "which is stronger" but "which one will my roaches eat right now". If you do not know, offering both answers it for you.
How to use Advion and Alpine together
- Alternate dots along each run: Advion, Alpine, Advion, Alpine, a few centimetres apart.
- Never put one gel on top of the other, and never mix them.
- Count the label rate for both gels together, not per gel.
- After 7–10 days, check which dots disappeared fastest. That is the gel your roaches prefer. Use more of it in the follow-up.
And Advion Evolution?
Advion Evolution has the same active as regular Advion (indoxacarb 0.6%) in a newer food base designed to increase feeding. It helps with roaches that refuse the regular Advion recipe, but it is not a change of chemistry. If you need a different active, that is Alpine. See Advion Evolution vs regular Advion.
Buying either one in the UAE
Both gels are counterfeited. Look for a printed manufacturer label (Syngenta or BASF), a batch code and date on the tube, and a seller who will show you the batch before you pay. Our guide on buying original Advion online in the UAE lists the checks, and the same apply to Alpine. Read the full Alpine cockroach gel guide for more on Alpine itself.
We deliver original Advion and Alpine across the UAE in 1–3 working days, card or cash on delivery.
Frequently asked questions
Is Alpine better than Advion?
Not better, different. Advion is the usual first choice; Alpine is the different-chemistry partner for when roaches stop eating Advion, and a common choice in food areas.
Can I switch from Advion to Alpine straight away?
Yes. Remove the old, dried dots and any spray residue, then apply Alpine in fresh dots.
What is the best cockroach gel in the UAE?
For most homes, an original non-repellent professional gel like Advion or Alpine, applied correctly and rotated every few months. We compare every option, including sprays and powders, in the best cockroach killer in the UAE.
