How to Tell Genuine Advion Gel from a Counterfeit in the UAE: 7 Decisive Signs

Watch the video guide
If you're shopping for Advion gel in the UAE, you're entering a market with a real problem: counterfeits are more widespread than you'd think, and most people who say "I tried Advion and it didn't work" never used genuine Advion in the first place.
This guide walks you through the signs of a genuine product, drawn from nine years in this trade.
Why Advion specifically gets counterfeited
Because it's the most requested. Advion's reputation among professional pest controllers made it a name people search for directly, and counterfeiters exploit that. The problem isn't just that a fake fails to kill roaches — it can actually teach them bait aversion, so they'll refuse the genuine product later too.
1. Sealed official packaging
Genuine Advion comes in a sealed plastic clamshell carrying a clear, high-quality printed Syngenta logo. It contains 4 tubes with a plunger and applicator tips.
Warning signs: a loose tube with no box, packaging that's already been opened, or faded printing and inaccurate colours.
2. Batch number and production date
This is the single most important sign. Every genuine tube carries a batch number and production date, printed clearly and legibly.
Counterfeits typically have: no batch number at all, a smudged number, or a label printed on an ordinary printer and stuck onto the tube.
Always ask the seller for a photo of the batch number before you buy. Anyone who refuses or dodges the question — walk away.
3. The active ingredient stated plainly
The label must read: Indoxacarb 0.6%. A different active or a different concentration means the product isn't Advion.
4. The texture of the gel itself
Genuine gel is uniform and creamy, light beige tending to honey-coloured. It extrudes evenly under pressure and holds its dot shape without running.
Signs of a fake: a watery texture that runs and loses shape, a hard clumpy texture that's difficult to press out, an odd greyish colour, or a sharp chemical smell (genuine gel has a very faint odour).
5. A suspiciously low price
Advion is an imported product with a known cost. If you find it at half the market price, ask yourself how. A modest difference between sellers is normal; a dramatic one usually has a single explanation.
6. Storage — the overlooked factor in the UAE
Even a genuine product can fail if it was stored badly. Gel is heat sensitive, and a tube that spent months in an un-airconditioned warehouse or a car through a UAE summer dries out and loses its palatability to insects.
So ask the seller: how do you store the product? A serious store answers immediately.
7. Who are you buying from?
The most practical sign of all: does the seller have a reputation to lose?
- A licensed store with a real address and contact number won't risk its reputation for a higher margin
- Someone selling through an anonymous account with no address and no licence loses nothing by selling you a fake
- Ask about the return and guarantee policy — their existence signals confidence in the goods
What to do if you've already bought a fake
First: stop using it. The harm goes beyond wasted money — your roaches may develop aversion to baits in general.
Second: clean the surfaces where you applied it with soap and water, dry them thoroughly, then start fresh with a genuine product in different locations.
Third: report the seller to the Department of Economy and Tourism — that's your right, and it protects others.
