How to Get Rid of Ants for Good in the UAE: The Secret Is the Queen, Not the Ants You See

If you're killing the ants you can see and they're back two days later, you're fighting the symptom rather than the cause.
Here's what most people don't realise: the ants you see are no more than 10% of the colony. The rest — including the queen and the larvae — are hidden inside walls or under the floor. And as long as the queen is alive, she'll keep producing thousands of workers without pause.
Why spraying fails against ants
Spraying an ant trail kills the workers present at that moment, and that's where the real problem begins:
- The queen replaces those losses within days
- Some species respond to spraying by budding — the colony splits into several smaller colonies in separate locations. One problem becomes five
- Repellent insecticide makes ants avoid the area and simply find another route inside your home
How gel bait works completely differently
Gel bait exploits the strongest behaviour in ants: food sharing.
A worker ant feeds on the gel, returns to the nest, then feeds the queen, the larvae and the other workers mouth to mouth (a process called trophallaxis). The effect spreads through the colony from the inside out.
That's why the gradual action is by design, not a flaw — if the gel killed the ant instantly, she'd die before reaching the nest and the queen would remain untouched.
Where exactly to place the gel
Place small dots directly on the ant trail, not randomly:
- On the trail you can actually see them walking
- Near entry points: window cracks, around doors, pipe entries
- Along kitchen counter edges and behind cabinets
- Under the sink and near sources of moisture
- In the garden: near soil nests and along tree trails
How much: a lentil-sized dot roughly every metre along an active trail. Multiple small dots beat one large blob.
The critical mistake: don't kill the ants gathering on the gel!
This is the most common error of all. Within hours you'll see dozens of ants swarming around the dot, and it may look like the problem got worse.
It's actually proof it's working. Those ants are the carriers taking the bait back to the queen. If you kill them or wipe the gel away, you've stopped the treatment at its most important moment.
Let them work for you.
What ruins the treatment
- ❌ Never spray insecticide near the gel — the number one cause of failure
- ❌ Don't wipe the trail with strong cleaners before applying — you'll erase the pheromone trail that leads the other ants to the bait
- ❌ Don't place it out in the open, away from the trail
- ❌ Don't lose patience on day two
The expected timeline
- First 24 hours: heavy swarming around the dots — an excellent sign
- Days 2–4: activity gradually declines
- Days 5–10: a marked drop
- Days 10–14: near-total disappearance as the queen dies
If you see no improvement after two weeks, the cause is usually one of three: wrong placement, contamination from a spray, or more than one colony.
Prevention after elimination
- Wipe old trails with water and vinegar — it removes the pheromone residue
- Seal cracks around windows and pipe entries
- Keep sugary foods in tightly sealed containers
- Dry the sink at night — ants seek water, not just food
- In the UAE summer, ant activity intensifies as they search for moisture — anticipate it and place preventive bait
What about children and pets?
Advion Ant Gel works with indoxacarb, which activates inside the target insect. Even so, the rule stands: always apply in cracks and hidden places out of reach, and follow the product label.
In short
Eliminating ants isn't about insecticide strength — it's about strategy: let the ants themselves carry the solution to their queen.
